Will County Baptist Church
Will County Baptist Church is orthodox in theology and evangelistic in practice.
1.) We believe the Holy Scriptures, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, to be the verbally inspired, authoritative Word of God contained in the Old and New Testaments as the very Word of God, wholly without error. We stand for the received text of the Holy Scriptures, the authorized version in the English language, and the sound translations of the Textus Receptus in the languages of the World. It is our position that the purest translation of those writings are found in the King James Bible, since others were foundationally flawed by Messrs. Westcott and Hort.
2.) We believe that God's powers have never diminished. He still heals, still saves and secures, still leads His own. He is still a God of miracles and worthy of all honor. We are not at all charismatic doctrinally, though we believe in the omnipotence and omniscience of God in all three of His persons. We believe in the one Triune God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
3.) We believe Jesus Christ was born of Mary, the Virgin, and is the Son of God, and God the Son; that he died upon the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for sin, the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God; that He arose from the dead and ascended into Heaven in a glorified body, from whence He will return with power and great glory in Person, bodily, visibly, to establish His Kingdom on the Earth. The two events of the Second Coming of Christ will be the pretribulation rapture of all saved alive at that time (1 Thessalonians 4: 15-18), and the Revelation, or the coming of His saints (1 Thessalonians 3:13; II Thessalonians 1: 7-10). We believe that He, only, is the great High Priest, and we need not the intercession of any Man, but that Christ ever liveth to make intercession for us. We believe that every believer is a priest, and a saint.
4.) We believe in the Holy Spirit; who is the third person of the Triune God, the divine agent in nature, revelation, and redemption; that He convicts the world of sin, regenerates those who believe, and indwells, empowers, guides, teaches, and sanctifies. We desire to be filled with the Spirit at all times (Ephesians. 5:18). The filling of the Spirit is not you getting more of Him, but the Holy Spirit getting more control of you. The Characteristics of a Spirit-filled Christian (Ephesians. 5:18-6:9) are the same as the characteristics of a Scripture-filled person (Colossians 3:16-23). So a Spirit-filled believer is a Scripture-filled believer.
5.) We believe that man was created in the image of God and by choice fell into sin and death. Hence, every person is sinful and under condemnation to eternal judgement. We believe that man was created by a direct act of God in the image and likeness of his Creator. By disobedience to the revealed will of God, man forfeited his reign over the earth and fell from his created state and standing with God. Therefore, all men are universally sinful both by nature and choice, and are void of the righteousness of God. All men are thus alienated from the life and family of God, without excuse, under the righteous judgement and wrath of God, and have within themselves no possible means of salvation. (Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; 5:12-19; Isaiah 53:6; Ephesians 2:1-13). We believe that all men have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that for the salvation of the lost and sinful men, repentance by the individual and regeneration by the Holy Spirit through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, is absolutely essential. Such salvation is by grace through faith; that salvation is the free gift of God. We believe that in order to be saved, the soul must be born again. We believe that the cross of Christ is redemptive, substitutionary, propitiatory and the only basis of reconciliation for all lost men who believe and that there is no possible salvation outside of Jesus Christ and His shed blood. (John 3:3-6,16:10,28-29; Acts 16:31; Ephesians 2:8-10; I Timothy 2:5,6; I Peter 1:18-23). We believe that those who receive Jesus Christ as Savour are eternally secure. Our security rests on the finished work of Jesus Christ. As a result, we have assurance.
6.) We believe that the true believer is forever secure as a redeemed possession of God. The believer is in the possession of God, which is the opposite of lost. He is secure because God has taken the responsibility for his own (John 10:27-30; I John 2:1-2; Romans 8:31-34, 38-39; I Corinthians 6:19; Hebrews 2:10). We believe every regenerate person should be baptized by immersion setting forth the Lord's death, burial and resurrection, and join a local, independent, fundamental and separated New Testament Church. It is not our position that baptism saves anyone, but that the issue here is obedience to the Scriptures.
7.) We believe in righteous living and good works not as the procuring cause of salvation, but as its evidence and fruit. Moreover, as children of God, we should walk in separation from the world, apostates, modernists, liberals, and compromisers, having no fellowship with their evil ways.
8.) We believe that the visible church is a congregation of baptized believers, practicing New Testament principles, believing its doctrines, observing its ordinances, and exercising its autonomy. We believe that a local church is an organized body of believers immersed upon credible confession of faith in Jesus Christ, recognizing only two offices (filled by pastor and deacon), sovereign in polity, and bonded together for work, worship, mutual edification, observance of the ordinances and the worldwide proclamation of the Gospel, not to "reform the world" but to preach and teach the Gospel of salvation to the individual soul. The church is distinct from Israel in the Old Testament, autonomous, with Christ as its head. (Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 1:22,23; Acts 2:41-47; Ephesians 4:11-13; I Corinthians 12). Our church government is quite simple. We accept the Bible's teaching that the pastor is the Earthly shepherd of the flock. We do not find denominations in the Scriptures, and so are independent from them. Our active church members have a very clear voice in the direction of the church and its activities, while the pastor "owns" the pulpit under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We believe that the four-fold platform of the Church is: a.) To recognize Christ as its only Head. b.) To obey the Holy Spirit as its only Administrator. c.) To proclaim the Word as its only message. d.) To win lost souls as its only mission.
9.) We believe in the eternal blessedness of the saved in Heaven and the eternal punishment of the lost in Hell. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost, secured by the bodily resurrection of Christ. The spirits of the saved at death go immediately to be with Christ in Heaven. Their lives and works shall be evaluated at the Judgement Seat of Christ for the determination of rewards which will take place when Christ comes for His own in the rapture. They will experience the blessedness of God's presence for all eternity. The spirits of the unsaved at death descend immediately into Hades where they are kept under punishment until the Great White Throne Judgement. At this time their bodies shall be raised from the grave and be cast into the eternal lake of fire. The place of final and everlasting punishment. John 5:28,29; 14:2; Revelation 20:14,15; 21:4; Matthew 25:46).
This Bible-believing non-charismatic ministry has fellowship with brethren that hold the great truths of the Bible outlined above. We would rather be known as Biblicists than Baptists, but we are Bible-believing Baptists. We believe these truths, but also understand that liberty demands acknowledging that others of good faith may certainly disagree with us on any but the major doctrines of Bible and faith as a means of Salvation, etc. Summing it all up, we believe in a supernatural Bible, which tells of a supernatural Christ, Who had a supernatural birth, Who spoke supernatural words, who performed supernatural miracles, Who lived a supernatural life, Who died a supernatural death, Who rose in supernatural power, Who ascended in supernatural splendor, Who intercedes as a supernatural priest and Who will one day return in supernatural glory to establish a supernatural kingdom on earth.
